They have been toying with the idea for a while.

I notice that Wazuans discussed it back in 2011

If it happens, be prepared to be blowing yourselves every week.

Ministry of Energy Principle Secretary Andrew Kamau has announced the government’s plan to introduce piped cooking gas in residential areas.

In an interview with Ktn news, PS Kamau said that the gas would come directly to the kitchen through a pipe system, replacing the gas cylinders.

“We are about to change the legal notice to allow for piped gas to all those low-cost housing. So you do not have to move around with those cylinders. It will come to your kitchen through a prepaid meter if you want or through a metered system that can be billed to the provider,” said Mr Kamau.

He further affirmed the government’s capacity to do so citing other upmarket estates areas that have installed such piped gas.The project would be realized through the government’s affordable housing project.

In 2018, the government halted similar plans over safety concerns, lack of appropriate infrastructure and lack of gas reserves

You need to have faith & trust in your government. This will be a big infrastructure development by Jubilee.

@ AA, If they cannot pipe water that flows on gravity, how can they manage gas that need to be pressurized. Before one can walk, one has to learn to crawl. Jubilee has not even started crawling but now want to do a sprint.

My guess is they would target high population density areas served from a central storage tank hence not require compressors. Its not feasible in our shagz, but this is where they may target to eat ☺

It would be a great move and kill that inconvenience of 'gas imeisha'.

Wouldn't this affect petroleum companies? Will they take it lying low? I expect a fightback

I agree with you on the gas imeisha issue, but the problem will be when some Kamau thinks he can diverge some of that gas for himself and some backdoor customers then in the process blow up a whole neighborhood

True @murchr, that and safety. I don't think I can trust them to deliver the gas safely, they will obviously compromise on the piping through corruption.

It's a noble idea, I don't know any high-end estate with piped gas, it's not more economical than cylinder gas, we tried doing it on a high-rise we are working for, but after the London tower fire the client decided against it, first let's check the wayleaves we have even in high-end estates, not very clear we dig up roads without notice to even kenya power how will we handle gas, I think that before we lay gas pipes we need to check our footpaths, roads, sewer, power lines storm water drains, internet lines then gas last.
